Entry from: Pangkalan Bun, Indonesia Entry Title: "Helpful Information for Getting to Tanjung Puting" Entry: "Booking travel logisitics for Tanjung Puting National Park (TPNP) was quite a struggle for us -- so we thought we'd put up some information for fellow travelers attempting to get there from Java. JAVA TO KALIMANTAN: We flew from Surabaya (north Java) to Banjarmasin (south Kalimantan) using LION AIR. On Lion Air, we flew aboard brand new Boeing aircraft (737-900ER). From Banjarmasin, we flew to Pungkalan Bun using KAL STAR (described by Lonely Planet as "reliable"). On Kal Star, we flew aboard French-made turboprop aircraft (ATR 42-300). During our return, our Kal Star plane featured cochroaches. Sit near the front to avoid them. Our layover between flights was only a few hours. We passed the time at one of Banjarmasin's executive lounges where there was lots of complimentary food/beverage, TV, couches and AC. Not to mention, they check in for you and take you to boarding ahead of others. Please note that Kal Star limits your luggage weight to 10 kilo per person. We left our luggage behind at a good, mid-range hotel in Surabaya (the Garden Palace Hotel). Please also note that Kal Star flights to Pungkalan Bun from Banjarmasin are limited to a few a day and can fill up quickly. Book your Kal ...
