It's not everyday that you get to go to the coldest place on the planet so when the opportunity came up for me to go I knew I would see some a once in a lifetime spectacle. All I can say is that there was alot of snow, alot of ice and no where to land if something went wrong. Apparently it's also the worst place for a plane to fly as if something went wrong and we did try to land, the freezing temperatures would turn us all into frozen vegetables in a few minutes and the plane would never be able to get back up again even if there was a run way due the cold exceeding the design limits for a take off. Long ago apparently a plane of such tourist crashed going too low for a closer look as they got their bearings mixed up. You just wonder whether they were able to attempt recovery of the air craft or whether it was just left there as seriously who would be able to find out anyway. So hop on board, put your tray table up and read that annoying safety card as we got back in time to what may well one day become historic video of how the Antartic once looked before it melted away. Still, I can't complain about the view as the highway wound around the mountains of the Dalmation Coast. On the bus ride I met an Australian (WOW) who had yet to book accommodation in Dubrovnik. He decided to come with me to the hostel, and so we ended up hanging out a bit in the next few days. That night we made friends with the other (Australian) hostel guests and had a great night, courtesy of a Canadian from Afghanistan. I won't discuss this night further because I've been told that my stories about drinking are worrying some people. I promise everything is under control (only two parties in 11 nights in Croatia). Dubrovnik was the first place on my trip that allowed me to visit the beach and really enjoy the weather. The bus was the most luxurious public bus I've ever been on - huge leather reclining seats, loads of space, meal and drink service and TV's in the seatbacks - I will be disappointed next time I travel on the Megabus back home. Strangely they didn't make any announcements so it was a bit hit and miss when we got to Singapore customs, but we all got through OK. Once off the bus I did my usual trip to a cash machine then caught a taxi to the hotel - once again I got the one taxi driver in Singapore who doesn't know where the Roberston Quay Hotel is. When I got to the hotel it has a sign saying it was voted amongst Hotelclub's most popular hotels in Asia, so he really didn't have any excuse, and was quite embarrassed. The hotel had mixed reviews online and I wasn't expecting much, but given the hotel rates in Singapore, this was what the budget would run to...It has a very offputting smell when you walk into reception and the rooms smell of disinfectant. The hotel is circular, so the rooms are all the shape of a piece of pie. The rooms are rather tired and a bit dusty, but well equipped, and the best thing is the view of the ...

I decided to waste no time and get on a bigger road so I can get to the mountains quicker. I arrived at a town called Antofagasta and decided to stop there for lunch. I had some problems with taking cash out from the ATM machine again. I was trying different places and finally took the money out in the city centre. 5 minutes later I realized that I lost my googles either in the last cash-point or at the petrol-station were I tanked just 10 minutes ago. I went to both places but the googles were gone. I had to look for a motorcycle shop and I found one. The googles were pretty expensive and I didnt like the design but I saw a nice enduro helmet which I liked. They didnt have my size so I went to look for another motorbike shop in town and in case I dont find anything else I am going to buy those googles. Camping Tips - How To Stay Dry While Camping

As we start the new camping season its all the time good to recite some tips on holding dry. Nothing makes a campout more unbearable than getting your gear all soggy! Although most habitancy camp during the summer months when it's warm and dry there are times during the season when you will get rain. But, fear not! Here are some tips to staying dry that I have learned from my 25+ years camping with the Boy Scouts.

Tip #1

Air Travel Card

o Did you use seam sealer on your tent? Remember to seal all tent seams on an yearly basis. purchase some "fresh" sealer from a sporting goods or camping store. during your first outing in the spring, re-seal all your seams with a liberal estimate of sealer.

Tip #2

o Are you putting a ground sheet or cloth under your tent when you camp? It's not just sufficient to put the ground sheet under the tent, you've got to tuck the edges under the tent so when it rains the water will not regain on the ground sheet and run under the tent. :-(

So, if your rain fly is installed correctly, the seam sealer holding and the ground sheet properly tucked under the tent you should be go to go! - at least from moisture getting into your tent.

Tip #3

o When inside the tent during a rainstorm, make sure your gear, sleeping bags, mattress, etc. Are not touching the tent walls. Why? Well, the tent walls and rain fly are designed to deflect the water droplets off the tent and onto the ground. If you upset this build by putting your pack, sleeping bag or other gear against the wall, water will pool and soak through the tent wall!

I learned this the hard way! I was in a small tent and didn't comprehend that my sleeping bag was resting against the tent wall. during the night it rained and I slept through it. In the morning I had a wet spot at the foot of my sleeping bag and a puddle on the floor of my tent. :-(

o When you enter the tent after being out in the rain, take off your wet clothes and put them in a corner or at the front of your tent with your wet shoes. In the Parade were representatives from the Boy Scouts, Brownies, and Tiny Cheerleaders. Santa came in a Fire Truck and went to work right-away collecting requests for all the boys and girls. There was entertainment provided by Kadena High School, the 3rd MEF Brass Band, T-Da Dance Studio a Hip Hop Dance Crew, and Mr. Kernel Popcorn (Magician and Family Entertainer see -- www.kernelpopcorn.com). Sponsors like Delta and Japan Airlines did travel give-aways to all who participated. 18th Services DJs (Night Lite Entertainment) had a Block Party and provided the music for the kids to dance to. The Festivities included a Tree Lighting Ceremony, (with Brigadier General Ken Wilsbach, presiding), Float and Greeting Card Contest, give-aways and carnival gaming for the kids.
