The new enhanced drivers licences will comply with WHTI ( The Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative) WHTI is a US law that requires all travellers, including US and Canadian citizens, to present a valid passport or other approved secure document when entering the United States from within the western hemisphere. The US WHTI is being implemented in stages by mode of transportation. The new document requirements were implemented for air travel in January 2007. Final document requirements for those seeking to enter the United States at land or water ports of entry will take effect June 1, 2009. Why Is This A Problem For Canadian Citizens? * WHTI was a result of the 9/11 commission if the majority of US citizens now believe the commission is heavily flawed, why should we base our new ID system around it? * Bill 85 allows for the implimentation of RFID and biometric, photo-comparison technologies * Bill 85 allows for the gathering of threat assessment information and share this information in a common framework with the United States * This threat assement information will be used to determin how you are processed at the border creating a two or three-tier system of border crossing.
